The Miracle Field

I would like to start out by saying thanks to all of you that have taken the time to read and share my post. I appreciate it more than you’ll ever know!
If you have been following my blog you may have noticed that for the most part, this blog has been about Interior Design, DIY, Remodeling, Repurposing and Reinventing things. There is a common thread throughout my blog and that would be, things that I love. Things that I love to do, to create and things that I do on a daily basis. Well, today’s post has nothing to do with Interior design and everything to do with something that I love, a place that I love and people that I love!

The Miracle Field!
Opening day of the new season starts in just a few days. On April 16, 2016 The Miracle Field will be filled with joy, smiling faces, and happy people!

It is one of the sweetest sights you’ll ever see!
If you’re not familiar with The Miracle Field it is a barrier-free, handicapped accessible baseball field with a cushioned, synthetic surface that accommodates wheelchairs and walkers, while helping to prevent injuries. The Miracle Field enables children and adults with physical or mental challenges the opportunity to play baseball by providing a level playing field where they can hit, run, and catch.
It’s one of the most magical places you will ever see! Adults and children that have never been able to play baseball before because of restraints are now able to do just that.
The Miracle Field is special to me for many reasons, one of which is this beautiful blonde headed, blue-eyed girl, Peyton Hicks! Peyton’s smile will light up a room; she holds a very special place in my heart!

She is the daughter of my friends Chip and Millie Hicks. Years ago Chip and Millie heard about the Miracle League. They visited several fields, Conyers, Douglasville and Alpharetta to see what they were like. They wanted children and adults of Whitfield County on the surrounding areas with special needs to be able to play baseball. After countless hours of hard work and fundraisers, what seemed like only a dream became a reality!

I’ll never forget opening day and ribbon cutting at The Miracle Field Whitfield County. It was such a great day for so many people.

This little boy was so excited, after he crossed home plate he ran straight to his Dad and gave him a big hug!
Last year spring opening day just so happen to fall on my 23rd anniversary and my oldest son Beau’s 19th birthday. (Yes, he was born on our fourth anniversary!)
April 11 is always a great day at my house! Lots of fun and activities on this day!
My day started out going to watch Blake my youngest son be a buddy at The Miracle Field.

At first I was making pictures and just being a spectator.

Then the last game of the day was about to start. The announcer said “We need 5 more buddies before we can start the game.” I thought about it, but I wasn’t sure exactly what to do, and I’m sure someone that knows more than I do about sports will volunteer. Then a few minutes later the announcer said “We need 1 more buddy before we can start the game.”
I knew that buddy was me! I went out on the field and met my player.

She played for the Angels!
As I stood in the field and looked all around me, I noticed there were Angels everywhere!

Precious people that put more effort into getting out of the bed every morning than most of us do all day. Sweet people that only want to love and be loved, kind people that have been secluded from sports their whole life, until now. Now for about 1 hour a week they get to shine, and Shine they do! Everywhere you look smiles are shining! Players, coaches and buddies alike, they’re all smiling! It’s truly Magical!
One of the coaches said to me “I’m not sure who enjoys this more, us, or them.”
I’m so thankful for the Miracle Field and for the coaches and volunteers that give their time every week to make it happen. I’m also thankful for each and every player out there, they are such a blessing to everyone they meet!
I left there feeling so blessed to have been a small part of it!
The Miracle Field gives a whole new meaning to Angels in the outfield!
